In 1968, after my grandmother died, my father discovered a commemorative medal showing the launch of the SS Great Britain on 19 July 1843. Shortly after this discovery the salvage of the wreck of the SS Great Britain became big news, so, when the wreck returned to Bristol for restoration on 19 July 1970, I was ready to gather memorabilia and press photos of the return.The photos on this lens were actually discarded, and then rescued from waste bins at the Bristol Evening Post in 1970!
