Agen today is a sleepy little town, nestled between hills and a river in the far East of Aquitaine. It's difficult to imagine that it used to be a bustling Roman trading centre, or at the heart of the 100 year war with England. Despite this obvious historical significance, Agen is modest and friendly. These days it's more well known for growing and preserving prunes or for its rugby team. The area is rich in tourist destinations, with bastides, caves, rivers, canals and other interesting things to see and do. Here's a run-down on the main attractions and history of the area.
