Thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail is a learning experience, and it is different for everyone. While every thru-hiker climbs the same mountains and weathers the same storms, the lessons they each take away from the experience depend on what they've brought to the trail. Sometimes the heaviest load isn't in the backpack, but in the psyche. Often, hikers don't even know they have questions until they find they've learned the answers somewhere along the trail.
