Most non-EU foreigners who visit The Netherlands only get to see Amsterdam, and maybe if they're lucky and have the time, the tulips in the Keukenhof. But did you know, Rotterdam is only a 40 minute train trip away from Amsterdam Airport?I made my walking tour on Google Maps, so there will be a link to Google Maps somewhere here where you can view my map in full scale and see all the details.

On a recent snowed-in lazy day, I plopped myself on the floor in front of my shelf full of scrapbooks and started flipping through some memories. Three of the scrapbooks contained keepsakes from my six-month Appalachian Trail thru-hike, including eighteen postcards I'd mailed to my parents in Rhode Island as I walked north from Georgia to Maine. While I did keep a daily journal, which you can peruse on my Hiking Writer website if you'd like, along with a sampling of the hundreds of photos I snapped along the way, I'm so glad my folks hung onto these postcards. Postcards limit you, of course, to what you can squeeze into less than a 4x6-inch space, so you can wax poetic for only so long. Not that my postcards are poetic at all, but reading those snippets is a fun way to re-live an adventure years later. I hope you'll enjoy this postcard journey of my A.T. experience and some of the other random memories these pictorial keepsakes conjure up.

Seeing and experiencing life on foot is a passion of mine that percolated during my college years while hiking New Hampshire's White Mountains at every opportunity, and bubbled to the surface with a vengeance about a decade later. To me, there's nothing better than wearing out the soles of my hiking boots on long and sometimes rugged paths.
