An ancient bird the owl is, full up with ancient wisdom and a keen hunter's eye. Protective, mystical. Many cultures consider the owl to be the symbol of death; some Native American tribes, the Japanese, and the Romanians see the owl as bad fortune, a bad omen. Death, misfortune, and punishment on the one hand, and on the other, wisdom, clarity of sight.

Feeding backyard birds is a great way to attract wild birds so we can see them up close and personal. We can attract more wild birds to our backyards by providing feeding stations for them with the kinds of food that they like. Different types of feeders and bird food will attract different kinds of birds to your backyard.

If you're ever in my neck of the woods here in Northern Arizona, I encourage you to explore the many wonders of the Coconino National Forest. At 1.8 million acres with an elevation span of 10,000 feet, the Coconino is one of the most diverse National Forests in the country. Its vistas range from cactus-filled canyons to rolling grassland and snow-capped peaks. Why not enjoy at least a day exploring the desert red rocks of Sedona, then drive an hour "uphill" to spend the night in Flagstaff, where you can start out bright and early for a hike to the 12,633-foot summit of Mt. Humphreys and experience the alpine tundra. The wildlife of the Coconino National Forest, dominated by the majestic Ponderosa pine, is as diverse as the scenery.

I have been birdwatching in Britain since I was just 7 years old, but in comparison, birdwatching in Thailand can be a most amazing experience due to the huge variety of species. Biodiversity is very high in tropical Asia and this is reflected by almost 1000 bird species having been seen in Thailand with new species being discovered every year.Having been birdwatching in Thailand since 1996 I have been treated to some amazing sightings of some incredibly beautiful and sometimes strange birds. This lens highlights some of my favourite species of birds in Thailand. If you are looking for places to watch birds when in Thailand please take a look at another one of my lenses; Where to Watch Birds in Thailand.

Birds are a most amazing group of species, the closest living relatives of dinosaurs, indeed there is evidence to suggest that they are dinosaurs.I have been watching birds since I was 7 years old, but it didn't take me long to see that bird behaviour is complex and varied, and that birds are capable of remarkable feats of intelligence and dexterity. The following are a collection of interesting bird video clips that show some amazing examples of bird behaviour. A number of these clips are from the excellent BBC television series 'The Life of Birds'.
