Tamil Nadu is a state in South India well known for its Temples and architecture, food, movies and classical dance and music. This province has been the home of the Tamils since at least 500 BC. The languages spoken here are mainly 'Tamil' (also written as 'Thamizh') and English in the large cities. Its main language Tamil has been in use in inscriptions and literature for 1500-2000 years. Its metro capital is Chennai. Tamil Nadu is homeland to various natural resources, magnificent Hindu temples of Dravidian architecture, hill resorts, beach resorts, multi-religious pilgrimage places and eight UNESCO World Heritage spots. Tamil Nadu was the historical home of the famous Chera, Chola, Pandya and Pallava kingdoms which flourished in ancient and medieval India.The early history of Tamil Nadu dates back about 6000 years. The Tamils belong to the Dravidian race and were part of the early Indus Valley settlers. Later with the Aryan invasion, the Dravidians were forced to remain back into the deep-south, where they finally settled. The present day states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh constitute the Dravidian culture.
