Robert Leroy Johnson was born in 1911 or 1912 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. He died 27 years later near Greenwood, Mississippi. Very little is known about Robert Johnson, and the small amount of work that he left behind was moderately successful when he was alive. It wasn't until the release of 'Robert Johnson: King of the Delta Blues Singers' in 1961 that anyone took notice. And it wasn't blues artists that paid attention, but rock and rollers from both America and Great Britain.
