You didn't have to be a boy scout to know to Be Prepared and be ready for anything. Having 24 or 48 hour kits close by in your house is essential for such emergencies that we do not foresee happening. A larger emergency stockpile should be held somewhere quiet, cool, and undisturbed in your house and should be replenished as time continues so that it is it's freshest state when needed if the call comes to it.
Since I'm gone alot at work, my wife put my 72 hour emergency kit in my trunk as if a disaster happens I'll probably be closer to my vehicle than I will the house while her's and our children's are in a main floor closet so that they can grab and go if the emergency calls for it.
